SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 14, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — After more than 2,500 audition videos were posted on YouTube, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has selected its virtual choir and released its video of “The Messiah.”
The finished video combines the voices of the 360-member Mormon Tabernacle Choir with vocals from the 1,000 virtual members selected for the project. All are backed by the Church’s 150-piece Symphony Orchestra.
Would-be choir members were asked to download music to suit their vocal ranges, and to record their parts and post them on YouTube.
Among those posting videos for consideration were “students celebrities, politicians and vocalists from all over the world,” according to information from mormonnewsroom.org.
“The Messiah” was composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel, with a scriptural lyrics put together by Charles Jennens.
The resulting LDS Church video, billed as “The World’s Largest Virtual Hallelujah Choir,” has now been posted to YouTube. The video is followed by an Easter message recorded by the LDS Church.
