The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released its first official photo of the newly formed Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
The photo of the Church’s second highest ruling body includes three new members – Elder Ronald A. Rasband, Elder Gary E. Stevenson and Elder Dale G. Renlund.
The three new apostles are filling the vacancies created by the 2015 deaths of Elder L. Tom Perry, President Boyd K. Packer and Elder Richard Scott.
It had been more than a century since there were three simultaneous openings on the Quorum of Twelve.
According to a church press release, Quorum of Twelve members are charged with the “primary responsibility to be special witnesses of the name of Christ throughout the world,” and to bear “the apostles have heavy administrative responsibilities as they oversee the orderly progress and development of the global Church.”
The average age of the current Quorum of Twelve Apostle members is 78.
