BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 8, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Thursday’s new Utah wildlife debuted at 20 acres while Wednesday’s has scorched 140 acres, according to Utah Fire Info updates.
Under its “New Start” headline the agency at 6 p.m. said the Warm Springs Fire in Box Elder County near the Nevada border is approximately 20 acres. “There are multiple ground and air resources en route. More info when it becomes available.”
Just before 8 p.m. the agency reported “A quick response from the local fire department and other resources caught the fire at 20 acres and saved structures in the area. A lightning holdover was the cause of the fire.”
Around noon Utah Fire Info said the Clay Pit Fire in Israel Canyon near Saratoga Springs that started Wednesday is estimated at 140 acres and is at 50% containment. The initial 200 acres estimate was provided before air support was able to properly gauge fire boundaries.
“Last night’s swing shift made great progress, and this morning we see minimal smoke. Three engines and one wildfire crew are currently working the fire with swing shift crew coming back on scene as well. Operations today will focus toward mopping up. The fire will be in monitoring status tomorrow.”
Progress is reported with Rich County’s Dry Fork Fire which threatened cattle when it started Tuesday.
Thursday afternoon it is estimated at 1,340 acres, or possibly 1,500 acres, and is 40% contained after starting the day at zero containment.”The fire saw no new growth and very minimal fire activity. Today crews were spread out along the fire perimeter and engaged in mopping up and strengthening containment lines.
“Fire will be transferred to local Type 4 Incident Management by end of shift today as crews continue to make progress to reach full containment.”
