SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 13, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Salt Lake City Police officer responding to a call Sunday night ended up with his patrol car crashing through a fence and ending up in a resident’s front yard
The accident happened when the officer’s car collided with another vehicle as they headed eastbound on 600 North and 1086 West, said SLCPD Lt. Russ Amott.
Amott said there was some confusion as to exactly why the cars collided. Utah Highway Patrol is handling the investigation, according to protocol, because an SLCPD officer was involved in the accident.
Only one or two people were in the passenger car, and Amott said he had been told they were not injured. They did not need to be taken to a hospital.
The police officer was being evaluated at the hospital for possible injuries from the deployment of the patrol car’s airbag.
“This sort of occurrence isn’t very common,” Amott said. “But it’s really important for drivers to move over when they hear the sirens, and stay out of the way.”
