WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, July 14, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — West Valley City police responded to a shooting overnight, and another incident with shots fired, both of which were in areas popular with illegal street racers.

The first call came in at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, and led WVC police to the area of 2572 S. 5600 West.

“One individual did get shot,” Lt. Vincent, WVCPD, told Gephardt Daily. “I don’t know their status. They were transported to a hospital, and detectives are still working on that as we speak.”

The victim is believed to be a juvenile, but no exact age is available, Vincent said.

“There’s not a lot more information I can give you at this point.”

The second response, at about 2 a.m. Sunday and to the west of the first incident, took officers to the area of 6047 W. Beagley Road..

“That one looks like a traffic accident, and a vehicle may have had either bullet holes or shell casings related to it,” Vincent said after checking the police log.

“It doesn’t show that anyone was actually injured. Multiple agencies responded to assist.

“It looks like this was also related to street racing that was going on earlier in the evening. It looks like a lot of people left the scene that were potential witnesses. There wasn’t a lot of cooperation on that end of things.”

Gephardt Daily will share any additional information that becomes available.
