SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 16, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City police confirmed Wednesday that they have recovered evidence at a Wyoming landfill related to the May 7 murder of 15-year-old Baleigh Bagshaw.

Police responded to the landfill after tips that they should check the Uinta County landfill, near Evanston.

Shaun French, 24 and the only suspect in the brutal murder, was arrested May 9 in La Junta, Colorado, after fleeing Salt Lake City and heading east.

“There were over 250 staffing hours dedicated to the search of the landfill,” an SLCPD statement says. “Evidence was recovered, the nature of which cannot be disclosed at this time.

“The Salt Lake Police Department would like to thank the Uinta County Landfill, the Evanston Police Department, the Uinta County Sheriffs Office, and the Wyoming State Police.”

Bagshaw was reportedly on the phone with her mother when she was attacked in her home. Bagshaw had previously posted on social media that French was stalking her and trying to blackmail her.

French was charged with having unlawful sex with a minor, who police have said was Bagshaw. French lived with Bagshaw and her family briefly, but was not a resident of the house at the time of the murder.

  1. I doubt I will ever forget this young lady or this case. It breaks me every time I think about her mother being on the phone with her child and hearing the attack. My love and prayers go out to her. I wish her comfort.
