SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, Feb. 14, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police officers and K-9s from multiple agencies were searching for a man wanted on several felony warrants early Wednesday morning.
The police activity began shortly after midnight.
Sgt. Eric Hill, of the South Jordan Police Department, said a Metro Unit officer was watching a house, knowing the wanted man was inside.
When the man came out and got into a vehicle, the officer followed and did a traffic stop.
The wanted man jumped out of the car and fled on foot, while police detained the driver.
It turned out that the vehicle was an Uber, and the startled driver had no idea what was happening. Hill said officers took the driver’s information and allowed him to leave.
A containment perimeter was set up in the area of 11400 South and 1300 West, with officers from West Jordan, Draper, and Unified Police departments assisting. The K-9 units also were brought in to try to track the wanted individual.
Ultimately, the man wasn’t found, and police weren’t sure if he had managed to leave the area or was hunkered down somewhere close by.
“It’s pretty wooded,” Hill said, “and that makes it hard for the dogs. It’s possible he beat our containment.”
Hill said the man is wanted for “child kidnapping and some robbery warrants.”
Police know who the man is, but are withholding his name and following leads for now.
If anyone in the area has surveillance video from about midnight to about 2 a.m. Wednesday, showing a Caucasian man, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 170 pounds, wearing a white shirt and blue jeans, the police would like to view it.
Hill added that if anyone happens to see the wanted man, they should not approach him, but should call 911 immediately.
