SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Dec. 29, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) Salt Lake City police officers arrested a 29-year-old man Saturday after he allegedly pointed a gun at a construction worker.

According to a press release by the SLCPD PR Unit, the encounter was reported at approximately 1:30 p.m. when a witness called 9-1-1 to report a man had pointed a weapon at a construction worker in the vicinity of 1440 South Main Street.

The worker noticed a truck parked behind a construction site and approached the vehicle to investigate, the SLCPD PR Unit statement said.

Upon closer inspection, the construction worker allegedly saw the driver, ultimately identified as Christian Gomez-Dominguez, drinking from a can of beer. The worker said Gomez-Dominguez then brandished a firearm, chambered a round, and then pointed the weapon at the worker through the window of his truck, the SLCPD PR Unit statement said.

No shots were fired, but the construction worker said he felt threatened by the suspect’s actions.

Responding officers found Gomez-Dominguez’s inside his truck about a block away and placed him under arrest.

Court documents filed in Salt Lake County Third District Court say during their search of the vehicle, police allegedly recovered a bronze Glock handgun, two handgun magazines, and a Modelo beer can.

Gomez-Dominguez given a field sobriety test and booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges including:

  • Possession of a firearm by a category two restricted person
  • Aggravated assault
  • Impaired driving
  • Open container in a vehicle
  • Operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license

The SLCPD PR Unit press release stressed the investigation was in its preliminary stages and the fact pattern was potentially subject to change.
