SALT LAKE CITY, June 26, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The driver of a red SUV ran into the dining area of a Wendy’s restaurant in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, and was briefly trapped in his vehicle.

According to witnesses, the man, believed to be in his 20s, made a sudden turn in his Dodge SUV. His vehicle jumped the curb, crashed through rocks and landscaping shrubs, and drove into the dining area of the building. It happened at about 10:25 a.m. The restaurant is at 1090 S. 300 West.

The driver initially was reported to be conscious but not alert at the scene. He was freed, then put on a stretcher for examination. According to officials on the scene, his injuries do not appear to be serious. Patrons inside the Wendy’s were unhurt, according to reports.

Investigators have not yet determined why the driver lost control of his vehicle. Members of a construction crew near the site told Gephardt Daily that the man stopped momentarily before the accident.

“It sounded like 10 drive-by shootings all at once,” one witness said.

Gephardt Daily has a crew at the scene, and will have more information as it becomes available.
