
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 16, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A person of interest after a fatal shooting has been found dead in an apartment after an overnight SWAT response to a Central City neighborhood.
It was one of two incidents that left three men dead in Salt Lake City overnight.
The Central City investigation began with an 11:59 p.m. call to dispatch regarding a shooting near 800 South and Park Street, north of Liberty Park.
“Officers arrived and found a 21-year-old man with critical injuries,” a news release from Salt Lake City Police‘s public relations department says.
“The 21-year-old man died on scene, despite lifesaving efforts by first responders. Based on the preliminary investigation, the 21-year-old man and a 53-year-old man were outside when a shooting occurred.”
Specific circumstances and motives of the shooting are unknown, the SLCPD PR statement says.
“Officers believe the 53-year-old man went back inside his apartment after the shooting. Officers tried communicating with him, but he did not engage. Due to the circumstances, the on-scene incident commander requested the assistance of the SLCPD SWAT Team and crisis negotiators.”
A warrant was obtained to enter the apartment of the older man.
“After several hours of trying to communicate with the 53-year-old man, using all available methods, SWAT officers entered the apartment and found the 53-year-old man dead inside. The specific circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation. However, this appears to be an isolated incident.
“There is no reason to believe there is any threat to the community and currently, detectives are not looking for any outstanding individuals.”
With the tactical portion of this incident done, homicide detectives began processing the scene, the statement says.
“The SLCPD’s Homicide Squad will work with the medical examiner’s office to confirm the name, cause of death, and to notify next-of-kin of both individuals.

Earlier shooting
That incident followed an earlier and reportedly unrelated shooting Salt Lake City police officers began investigating at 11:40 p.m. Friday. SLCPD officers responded to the area of 1045 E. 2100 South, in the city’s Sugar House neighborhood.
In the Sugar House neighborhood case, SLCPD officers responded to the area of 1045 E. 2100 South. They found one person deceased and one person with “critical but stable injuries, the SLCPD PR statement says.
“Based on the preliminary investigation, the circumstances of this shooting appear to be the result of an earlier fight involving several people. Officers do not believe there is any threat to our community associated to this incident and it appears all involved parties have been accounted for.”
