SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 9, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – The Utah Department of Transportation is warning drivers of two significant closures that will impact travel this weekend on US-6 in Spanish Fork and near downtown Salt Lake City.

According to a UDOT news release, US-6, a popular travel route to Moab and Lake Powell, will be reduced to a single lane in each direction at the 400 North Bridge in Spanish Fork from Sunday, August 11, through Thursday, August 15, for bridge repairs.

Work will occur every day from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., but lane closures will be in place throughout all hours, since crews are replacing the bridge deck. These same lane closures will repeat from Aug. 18-22, UDOT says.

Major delays should be expected. UDOT urges vacationers and commuters to use Spanish Fork Main Street to Canyon Road or SR-77 to US-89 as alternate routes to avoid major delays.

In Salt Lake City, 500 South (including its ramps to I-15 southbound and I-80 westbound) will be closed Friday, August 9, from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday from 500 West to the freeway on ramp, the UDOT release says. Crews will be working through the night to replace worn out overhead signs.

“Then, throughout the weekend, the lane striping crew will be moving throughout the Salt Lake Valley to install new wider lane markings designed for high visibility and reflectivity on I-15 and I-215.

“While the crew installs this “tiger-tail” striping (which includes a white line followed by a black line to enhance visibility), UDOT must close adjacent lanes and on- and off-ramps.”

The crews will work overnight starting at 9 p.m. all across the Salt Lake Valley the next several days:

  • Saturday, August 10: crews will be working on eastbound I-80 East in Parleys Canyon near Lambs Canyon.
  • Sunday, August 11 and Monday, August 12: crews will be working on northbound I-15 from the I-215 interchange up north through the eastbound I-80 interchange. Expect temporary ramp closures at the following ramps: I-215 westbound to I-15 northbound, 4500 South, 3300 South, eastbound I-80 and the ramps at the Spaghetti Bowl.
