UHP IDs motorcyclist killed in San Juan County collision

SAN JUAN COUNTY, Utah, June 3, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Highway Patrol has identified a woman killed Thursday when her motorcycle collided with a Ford F-350 pickup truck in San Juan County.

The motorcyclist who died was 61-year-old Catherine Malapanes, from Fruita, Colorado.

The crash happened at 10:50 a.m. at milepost 113 of State Route 191.

“A Kawasaki motorcycle was southbound at this location when it experienced an equipment failure,” the Utah Highway Patrol statement says. “The motorcycle crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a northbound Ford F-350.

“The 61-year-old female driver of the motorcycle succumbed to injuries on the scene. The driver of the pickup was uninjured.”

The UHP statement says the Kawasaki motorcycle “experienced an equipment failure.”
