Utah County sheriff’s deputies score large drug bust on I-15

UTAH COUNTY, Utah, Jan. 10, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) – Deputies with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office scored a large drug bust Wednesday on I-15.

According to a UCSO news release, posted on social media, deputies were northbound on I-15 near mile marker 242 about 4 p.m. when they observed a Toyota Tundra towing a trailer, also heading northbound.

The Tundra was allegedly seen committing several traffic violations and a traffic stop was conducted.

A UCSO K9 was deployed, and during the investigation deputies were “able to locate a substantially large amount of illicit drugs, cash, and a firearm,” the news release said.

“The driver was identified as Ashley Atwood, a 42-year-old male out of Vernal, Utah, who was booked into the Utah County Jail on alleged drug distribution related charges.

The news release said items allegedly seized during the traffic stop include, 60.75 pounds of methamphetamine, 102.7 grams of heroin, 61.2 grams of cocaine, $61,595 in cash, and one handgun.

The 2023 Toyota Tundra was also seized, according to the UCSO release.

The estimated street value of the methamphetamine alone would be around $550,000, investigators claim.
