UTAH, March 29, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Department of Natural Resources is seeking Utahns’ help in finding the shooters responsible for poaching a pronghorn in Carbon County and a mule deer in Beaver County.
The pronghorn buck was reported to conservation officer J.D. Abbott, who found it north of Wellington, just off Old Wellington Road.
An investigation revealed that the pronghorn had been shot in the neck with a .22 caliber bullet. Nothing was removed from the carcass at the time of kill. It appears the suspect or suspects shot the buck and left it to waste.
Officers estimate the pronghorn was killed between March 12 and March 19. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Abbott, through [email protected] or by calling 435-650-0654, or to call the Utah Turn in a Poacher (UTIP) hotline at 1-800-662-3337.
In Beaver County, a 20-inch mule deer buck was found dead just outside Beaver city, in the area below the “B” on the mountain.
Officers determined the buck had been shot. Nothing was taken from the carcass and the entire animal was left to waste.
Officials believe the buck was killed between December 2015 and January 2016.
Anyone with information is asked to contact officer Brandon White, [email protected] or 435-310-0238, or to call the UTIP hotline.
In each of the two cases, a reward may be available to anyone who provides information leading to the successful prosecution of the person or people responsible for the crime.
