WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, July 23, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Thirty-four firefighters from nine Utah fire departments gathered this weekend to deploy to the Lone Rock Fire, near Condon, Oregon.
The deployment was in response to a state-to-state request through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC). Following the request, Utah submitted an offer of resources and financial reimbursement considerations, which Oregon has accepted, says a news release issued by the Utah Department of Public Safety.
This firefighting group consists of two task force leaders, two task force leader trainees, firefighters, support personnel, three type 3 engines, five type 6 engines, and two water tenders. Those resources are from Draper, Provo, West Valley City, Murray, Park City, Orem, North Tooele County, and Weber County Fire Departments and Unified Fire Authority, the statement says.
The group left from the Maverik Center just after 3 p.m. Sunday after a logistics and safety briefing. It will deploy for about 16 days (14 days working plus travel).
“Utah still has the resources we need to respond to fires in Utah. However, this EMAC group can be recalled at any time during the deployment, if necessary,” the statement says.
Oregon’s specific request for Utah assistance is the result of several other successful Utah EMAC deployments in recent years, the Utah DPS statement says.
“Utah stands ready, willing, and able to help a state in need.”
