SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 16, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Utah man charged in November 2018 with human trafficking has been convicted of multiple felonies.
James Savage Brown was found guilty of:
- Two counts of aggravated human trafficking, a first-degree felony
- Aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony
- Rape, a first-degree felony
- Forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony
- Aggravated exploitation of a prostitute, a second-degree felony
Charges dismissed with prejudice are:
- Possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, a second-degree felony
- Possession or use of a controlled substance, a class B misdemeanor
- Unlawful possession, purchase or transfer of a dangerous weapon, a class B misdemeanor
- Two charges of tampering with a witness or juror, a third-degree felony
Brown’s sentencing is set for Oct. 21.
The Utah Attorney General’s Office learned of Brown’s activity in 2018 from one of the victims after she was released from the Salt Lake County Detention Center.
“While there, the victim encountered another woman who had suffered similarly at the hands of Brown,” the news release said. “Both women told stories of sexual assault, physical abuse, and repeated forced prostitution.”
Brown has a lengthy criminal history, both in Utah and California.
