WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah May 15, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Police were able to chase down a pair of young hold-up wannabes Tuesday night who allegedly pulled a “gun” on some prospective Facebook sellers.

A couple had listed some tools for sale on Facebook Marketplace and arranged to meet prospective buyers, two juveniles, at a West Valley City strip mall at 3568 S. Redwood Road, police said.

Instead of a transaction, the female of the pair in a filter mask pulled a replica gun demanding the sellers turn over the goods, which they did.

The juveniles then fled in their vehicle, West Valley City Police Lt. Scott Burke told Gephardt Daily of the 8 p.m. incident. The sellers pursued, and called 911.

The suspect vehicle was quickly located and police pursued, southbound on Redwood Road then east at 3800 South, northbound on 2700 West and onto Interstate 215 where the chase ended as the suspects pulled over and surrendered, and arrests made. Speeds had reached 90 mph.

No injuries resulted, Burke said, and the stolen merchandise was found in plain view in the suspect’s vehicle. A Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter had been requested reportedly, but the incident was over before it was able to launch.
