KARAK, Jordan, Dec. 19 (UPI) — It appears that the perpetrators of a terror attack that killed 10 in Jordan this weekend had planned other acts of violence, investigators said Monday.

Jordan’s interior minister said police found several materials inside the suspects’ apartment that indicate they were planning other attacks. Among the items found were firearms, explosives and suicide vests.

Seven security officers and three civilians, including a tourist from Canada, were killed in the attack Sunday. Police said four gunmen were killed, although it wasn’t immediately clear whether other suspects might still be at large.

Investigators are still looking into the attack and have yet to determine where or what the other possible plots might have involved.

Regarding Sunday’s attack in Karak, officials said although 10 people died it could have been worse.

“If it wasn’t for the professional work of the security forces, we would have seen many more deaths,” government spokesman Mohammad Momani said.

U.S. officials condemned the attack on Monday.

“We offer our deepest condolences to all the victims and their families, and recognize the bravery of the Jordanian security personnel who died protecting their fellow citizens,” a statement from the U.S. embassy in Amman said.
