DRAPER, UTAH – September 9, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A fight that broke out at the Utah State Prison Wednesday morning sent one inmate to the hospital and injured several others.
According to Brooke Adams, spokesperson for the Utah Department of Corrections, the fight broke out around 11:20 a.m. in the Wasatch and Oquirrh facilities at the prison in the area of the Oquirrh 3 unit.
“Both of those facilities are currently on lockdown and the status of the facilities will be re-evaluated Thursday morning,” said Adams. “All visitation for those areas are currently suspended until further notice.”
The investigation is ongoing however they have confirmed it was a gang-related incident and did not include any weapons.
Several of the inmates involved received minor injuries and one inmate was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
