LOS ANGELES, June 7 (UPI) — Vin Diesel and the “Fast 8” cast are hard at work on the “Furious 7” sequel.
The 48-year-old actor, who plays Dominic Toretto in the “Fast and the Furious” movies, shared a photo of himself and his co-stars from the “Fast 8” set over the weekend.
Fellow franchise stars Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez and Ludacris are all pictured, along with newcomers Charlize Theron, Scott Eastwood and Kristofer Hivju. Vin Diesel captioned the group shot with a simple “#F8.”
“Fast 8” is directed by F. Gary Gray, who is known for “The Italian Job” remake, “The Negotiator” and “Straight Outta Compton.” The movie will also feature Kurt Russell and opens in theaters April 14, 2017.
The film is the first “Fast and the Furious” installment to not star Paul Walker, who died at age 40 in November 2013. The late actor appeared as Brian O’Conner in “Furious 7,” but the movie’s release was delayed after his death.
“The fact that the world embraced it and allowed it to be Paul’s legacy, it’s just a beautiful thing,” Vin Diesel said of “Furious 7” at the 2015 MTV Movie Awards.
“Paul used to say that [‘Fast 8’] was guaranteed and, in some ways, when your brother guarantees something, you have to make sure it comes to pass,” he added. “‘Furious 7’ was for Paul; 8 is from Paul.”
“The Fast and the Furious” franchise has earned over $3.9 billion at the box office. The first installment, “The Fast and the Furious,” premiered in 2001, while the latest, “Furious 7,” opened in April 2015
