Hot Tub Time Maching - Gephardt DailyRating: C-

In theaters this week Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry and Clark Duke star in “Hot Tub Time Machine 2.”

When Lou finds himself in trouble, Nick and Jacob fire up the hot tub time machine in an attempt to get back to the past to save the future. Missing from the first film is John Cusack, who has stated he was never approached to do the film.

What the film does have is a ton of gross sight gags, one-liners and sexual innuendos all geared for the movie’s core audience who are mostly the frat-house crowd. And after all that is said and done, “Hot Tub Time Machine” 2 has a few really funny moments in it but not enough to carry it past the above average level. The film gets a C- and is rated R.

After the events of the first film, it is revealed that Nick and Lou used their knowledge of the future to enrich themselves – Nick by ripping off songs from artists before they were originally released, and Lou by capitalizing on advance knowledge of tech advances to appear as a technology guru. During a party in Lou’s honor, he is shot by an unknown assassin. Nick and Jacob use the time traveling hot tub to try to get back to the past to learn who shot him and undo the damage, but they inadvertently end up ten years in the future. Jacob reasons the assassin came from the future, which they must alter if they want to save their present-day environment.
