May 2 (UPI) — Rihanna, Katy Perry and Chrissy Teigen wore bold looks on the red carpet Monday.
The trio of stars embraced color and texture for the 2017 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which honored Japanese label Comme des Garçons and its founder, Rei Kawakubo.
Rihanna stole the show in an avant-garde Comme des Garçons dress covered in red and floral-patterned petals. She paired the dress with thigh-high tied sandals and several red and pink-jeweled rings.
“I love it,” the 29-year-old singer told Vanity Fair. “It feels [expletive] awesome!”
Perry, who co-chaired and performed at the gala, turned heads in a red Maison Margiela gown by John Galliano. The sheer dress featured an embellished bodice and sleeves, a train and a cathedral-length veil.
“v excited to be cohosting and performing at The Met tomorrow! Can’t wait to serve you guys lewks and lungs,” the 32-year-old singer tweeted prior to the event.
Teigen, who was accompanied to the gala by husband John Legend, wore a black and white Marchesa gown with a train. The sheer dress featured hand-embroidered details, beading and floral appliqué.
“We want to make a statement for sure,” the 31-year-old model teased in an interview with People last week. “But for the most part, it’s just gonna be really beautiful and simple.”
Actress Katie Holmes, reality star Kim Kardashian and model Kendall Jenner were among the other celebrities at the event. Jenner stunned in a barely-there La Perla dress with a hand-painted bodice underneath.
