May 27, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson suffered a medical emergency Sunday during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles.

According to a report in The New York Post, the 57-year-old boxing legend “became nauseous and dizzy” in the flight’s final leg, prompting members of the crew to ask if there was a doctor on board the aircraft.

A representative for Tyson told the NY Post that Iron Mike was “doing great” and his bout with illness was “due to an ulcer flare up 30 minutes before landing.

“He is appreciative to the medical staff that were there to help him,” the rep said in an email sent to multiple media outlets.

Tyson is scheduled to fight YouTuber Jake Paul on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The match will be streamed live on Netflix.

Tyson has been training hard for the upcoming bout and recently told reporters he was “very much looking forward to stepping into the ring” with Paul, who is 30 years his junior.

“He’s grown significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a ‘kid’ can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT,” Tyson said in an article published by UPI. “It’s a full circle moment that will be beyond thrilling to watch; as I started him off on his boxing journey on the undercard of my fight with Roy Jones and now I plan to finish him.”

Paul and his brother Logan Paul became famous as content creators on Vine and YouTube.

Paul made his professional boxing debut in 2020, which was explored in an episode of the Netflix docuseries Untold: Jake Paul the Problem Child.

Word of Tyson’s medical issue was first reported by In Touch.
