HEBER CITY, Utah, June 30, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — One person is dead and another was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries as a result of a crash Friday afternoon on State Route 40.

According to a Utah Highway Patrol news release, the collision occurred at about 3:28 p.m. when a Toyota Highlander, driven by Susan Burton, 78, of Heber, was heading east on SR-40.

In the area of milepost 15 near 3000 North, SR-40 has two eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes, divided by a center multi-purpose/turn lane, the news release said.

The Highlander crossed over into the westbound lanes and hit a Mazda 6 head-on.

The driver of the Mazda, 16-year-old Victor Benitez, of Heber, was killed in the crash.

Burton was flown by medical helicopter to University of Utah Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The crash is under investigation, as troopers work to determine why the Highlander crossed into oncoming traffic.
