KAYSVILLE, Utah, Feb. 4, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Kaysville police tried to stop a possible drunken driver on Interstate 15 Sunday night, and the driver fled, leading officers on a high-speed chase.
Sgt. Shawn McKinnon, Kaysville Police Department, said a citizen called dispatch to report a possible drunken driver.
Officers located the vehicle, which had been stolen, at about 200 North on I-15 in Kaysville.
McKinnon said they attempted to make a traffic stop at about Antelope Drive on northbound I-15, and it appeared that the driver was going to stop. Instead, the vehicle took off and fled at speeds that topped out at 108 miles an hour.
With police in pursuit, the vehicle got off the freeway and was heading toward Hill Air Force Base, McKinnon said.
“It looked like they were going to enter at the gate (at Hill),” McKinnon said.
Police decided at that point to perform a PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) maneuver to prevent the vehicle from getting onto the base.
McKinnon said two men, each about 40 years old, were taken into custody.
No one was injured, he said, but the stolen car had some damage from being hit during the PIT maneuver.
In addition to Kaysville Police, officers from Clinton Police Department and Utah Highway Patrol assisted in apprehending the suspects.
