Body of paraglider recovered near Willard Peak

BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 26, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The body of a paraglider has been recovered near Willard Peak after he was reported overdue.

The call came in at about 7:30 p.m. Friday.

“Search and Rescue operations were initiated, and a Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter was sent to assist,” the Box Elder County Sheriff statement says.

“Tragically, the helicopter identified a debris field and confirmed that the paraglider was involved in a fatal incident near Willard Peak.”

The Box Elder County Search and Rescue team aided the DPS helicopter in using a hoist to recover the body, the statement says. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

“The paraglider has been identified as a 25-year-old male from Kaysville, UT. No further information will be released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss. Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this incident.”
