Cottonwood Heights PD mourns loss of first K-9 officer

COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah, March 8, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Cottonwood Heights Police are mourning the loss of the department’s first K-9 officer.

Storm, whose nickname was Scooby, was 14 when he passed away on March 5, according to a statement by Cottonwood Heights PD.

“For those that have been around long enough to remember K-9 Storm (Scooby), we are sad to let you know he passed away,” said a Facebook post. “Storm was our first Cottonwood Heights Police Department K-9 and was nicknamed ‘Scooby’ by all that knew him. Storm had a long and successful seven-year working career.”

Storm assisted in hundreds of drug cases and hundreds of thousands of dollars seized, the post said.

“Storm was well known throughout the county for his success and abilities not only assisting CHPD, but most every agency in the area on a regular basis,” the post said.

“Due to Storm’s amazing tracking ability, dozens of suspects were located that otherwise never would have been found, identified, or apprehended after fleeing from crimes. Storm was intense while working, but incredibly friendly with his family, friends, and other dogs.”

Storm loved to go to work, French fries, riding in his truck, searching for drugs, people, and flying in helicopters, the post said.

“Storm was always excited anytime he heard a helicopter thinking it would land so he could go on another ride,” the post added. “Storm will be missed.”
