LAYTON, Utah, Jan. 28, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — The Davis School District has sent counselors to talk with young students at Vae View Elementary after the school’s crossing guard was struck and killed by a driver Tuesday morning.

A district spokesman shared the principal’s message to parents of Vae View students:

“It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that a Layton City crossing guard assigned to assist our students died this morning from injuries sustained in an auto-pedestrian accident. It occurred at about 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of 1600 North and Main Street,” it says.

“The district has responded by sending grief counselors to our school to assist any student having a difficult challenge following the incident.

“Because children need caring adults with whom they can discuss their feelings, we encourage you to take an opportunity to share your beliefs and discuss ways your child may cope with the tragedy.

“We highly appreciate the relationship we have with Layton City officials and the Layton City Police Department. Our hearts go out to the family of the crossing guard and to all those affected by the accident.”

According to reports, the man killed was 67-years-old and died on the scene. No students were struck. The driver, who was northbound on Main, remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
