DUCHESNE, Utah, Sept. 23, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A Duchesne juvenile has been charged as an adult in the alleged fatal shooting of a younger family member.

The Duchesne County Attorney’s Office has charged Haegan Ray Sagers, 16, with one count of murder, and one of felony discharge of a firearm with serious bodily injury, both first-degree felonies. Gephardt Daily is releasing the name of the charged juvenile only because he will be tried as an adult.

The victim, also a male, was a 14-year-old relative from the same household. Charging documents were signed by Michael Goodrich, Deputy Duchesne County Attorney.

Duchesne County Sheriff’s deputies responded Sunday to a report of a family fight involving the discharge of a firearm in northwest Duchesne County, the DCSO said in a news release Sunday night.

“Upon arriving on scene deputies located one male juvenile outside the residence and another male juvenile was located deceased inside the residence from a gunshot wound to the upper body.”

No other family members were inside the home at the time of the incident, the DCSO statement said. Detectives were called and began an investigation.

“One male juvenile was taken into custody and transported to the Duchesne County Sheriff‘s Office for questioning before being transported to the Split Mountain Juvenile Detention Center in Vernal.”

The name of the victim has not been released.
