GREEN RIVER, Utah, Aug. 21, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — K-9 Dak, with his Emery County Sheriff handler, was on patrol in Green River when he smelled something familiar from his training and years on the job.

“K-9 DEPUTY DAK IS ON A ROLL!,” says a statement from the sheriff’s office. “The war on drugs in Emery County continues.

“While working a patrol shift in Green River, Dak and his handler, Deputy Egan Smith, did some sniffing around a semi truck. Dak gave his indication to Deputy Smith that he smelled something suspicious.”

Smith approached the driver and was able to search the semi.

“He located 2.5 pounds of cocaine and 4 pounds of heroin. The driver of the semi was arrested.”

Sheriff Tyson Huntington praised the partners.

“Great job Deputy Smith and Dak on your relentless pursuit of those trying to do harm in our county,” Huntington wrote in a news release.

“Great job to all of our deputies who show up every day to serve our public inside and outside of the jail. I am grateful you have the strength and courage to stand as the sheepdogs and fight on behalf of us who are trying our best to work, raise our families, go to school, or otherwise live in peace in this blessed area.

“I am reminded of a favorite quote: ‘The true warrior fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.'”
