Layton boy dies from injuries after car hits bicycle in Clearfield

CLEARFIELD, Utah, Aug. 26, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 10-year-old Layton boy died after a bicycle/vehicle collision on Saturday.

The call came to dispatch at 4:46 p.m., and emergency crews responded to 1900 S. Chelemes Way in Clearfield.

A Clearfield PD statement says the boy was hit while traveling south at a four-way stop in the residential neighborhood. The involved vehicle was traveling east.

“It appears the vehicle had just begun moving into the intersection as the bicyclist attempted to cross the intersection,” the police statement says.

“Medical personnel attended to the patient on scene and transported him by ground ambulance to Holy Cross Hospital (Davis). While at hospital the patient’s condition worsened, and the patient passed away due to injuries sustained in the accident.”

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with this investigation, the statement says.

“The Clearfield Police Department will continue to investigate this incident. No charges have been filed nor citations issued at this time. The 10-year-old victim was from Layton, Utah. Further identification will not be made public.

“The Department sends its sincerest condolences to the family members, friends, those who witnessed the accident, and all those affected by this tragic accident.

“Responding agencies included: Clearfield Police Department, North Davis Fire District, Davis County Sheriff’s Crime Lab, and the Office of the Medical Examiner.”
