Magnitude 2.9 earthquake hits near Wayne County’s Hanksville

WAYNE COUNTY, Utah, Nov. 10, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A small earthquake hit southern Utah Sunday morning, hitting an area about 14 miles west-northwest of the small town of Hanksville.

The quake, measured at 2.9 magnitude, hit at a depth of 2.2 miles. It happened at 10:17 a.m., according to the University of Utah’s Seismographic Stations.

Hanksville’ s population was estimated in 2023 at 170 residents. The town is located in Wayne County.

Gephardt Daily could find no reports of damage in the sparsely populated rural area.
