SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah, Nov. 5, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man has been charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping and burglary after he allegedly broke into a woman’s Summit County home where he once lived, then would not let her leave.
A probable cause statement issued by the Third District Court in Summit County said Darrell Stewart Sargent, 26, is facing charges of second-degree felony kidnapping, third-degree felony aggravated assault and second-degree felony burglary of a dwelling.
The probable cause statement said that Sargent, who had cohabited with the victim and had been in an intimate relationship with her for approximately eight years, broke a bedroom window to gain access to her apartment in the early morning hours of Saturday.
“She reported that while Darrell was inside the apartment, he head-butted her and placed his hands around her throat to choke her,” the statement said. “She stated she felt she was not allowed to leave her apartment, and Darrell had held her against a stove in the kitchen, then drug the victim by her hair to her bedroom where he threw her to the bed and held her down.”
A cellphone belonging to Sargent was located below the broken window during the course of the investigation, the probable cause statement said.
The court ordered that Sargent is to be held without bail.
