ST. GEORGE, Utah, May 25, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Two young boys missing from St. George, taken by their non-custodial parent, are in Mexico.
The St. George Police Department told Gephardt Daily on Thursday that Angel Lopez, 9, and Jesus Lopez, 11, are now known to be in Mexico following their abduction by their father, Ricardo Lopez, 51.
The boys’ parents recently divorced, and their mother was awarded full custody. Ricardo Lopez reportedly said he was giving the boys a ride to school on Wednesday, but they never arrived.
Aware that Lopez was likely to make a run for Mexico, the St. George Police Department put out an urgent request for the public to look for the car he was believed to be traveling in, a red 2007 Dodge Caliber.
Police have since discovered that Lopez sold the car in Mesquite, Nev.
Officials say they are working with federal officials to try to learn the boys’ exact location.
“They are still considered to be endangered,” officer Lona Trombley, SGPD spokeswoman, told Gephardt Daily.
“Now the FBI and Homeland Security will be coordinating with the government of Mexico to try and get them back.”
