WEBER COUNTY, Utah, June 3, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A woman in her 20s swam to safety after she lost control of her car and crashed it into Pineview Reservoir on Saturday afternoon, officials said.

Deputies were dispatched to the single-vehicle accident on State Route 158 at mile marker 1 near Eden at approximately 3:45 p.m., according to a news release from Weber County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Nealy Adams.

The involved vehicle was southbound on SR-158, when it left the roadway to the right and the driver overcorrected, coming back onto the roadway. The driver then lost control, left the roadway to the south and went over the embankment.

Multiple witnesses reported they saw the vehicle go into Pineview Reservoir near the dam keeper’s residence, the news release said.

“Once the vehicle was in the reservoir the driver was able to take off her seatbelt and escape under her own power,” the news release said.

The driver was taken to a local hospital by family and was treated for minor cuts, scrapes, and bruises.

The driver and witnesses were able to provide statements; it does not appear the driver was under the influence. The incident was only investigated for a lane travel violation.

A local tow company recovered the vehicle from the reservoir Sunday morning at approximately 8 a.m.

The woman was not identified by officials.
