WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Feb. 5, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A man is in custody after leading police on a slow-speed chase, hitting another vehicle and then trying to escape on foot.
West Valley City Police Lt. Robert Hamilton told Gephardt Daily the incident began at 11:13 p.m. Saturday, when an officer noticed the man driving recklessly and running a red light.
The driver, who is about 30 years old, proceeded to head north on Bangerter Highway at speeds ranging between 20 and 35 mph, Hamilton said.
The pursuit terminated at 3959 W. 1820 South, after the man hit a car at an intersection and lost a tire from his own vehicle. After his car stalled out, he managed to run only a short distance before officers brought the escapade to a halt.
Lt. Hamilton said it isn’t known why the man refused to stop, but said it’s possible that he was intoxicated. The man was taken to the hospital as a precaution and to be evaluated.
There were no injuries, and Hamilton said the vehicle that was hit at the intersection had only minor damage.
