MIDVALE, Utah, May 22, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Two schools were placed on lockdown briefly and a large containment area was set up after an armed robbery in Midvale.

The robbery was at a business at 7343 S. 900 East, the address of a strip mall. It occurred at about 11:30 a.m.

Detective Ken Hansen, Unified Police Department, said the suspect entered one of the businesses and brandished a handgun.

“The suspect is at large,” Hansen told Gephardt Daily. “The location was near Hillcrest High, so that is why we did the lockdown.”

The suspect fled the scene, and was believed to have been hopping fences between the backyards of residences in his attempt to get away.

A large containment area was set up.

Schools placed on shelter-in-place status were Hillcrest High School and Jordan Valley School. The lockout at both schools was lifted about 20 minutes after it was announced on Twitter.

Hansen said he believes the containment area has been lifted, and police will pursue other strategies in hopes of identifying the suspect.
