SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 16, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have arrested a man after the alleged armed robbery of three people exiting a convenience store on Redwood Road.

Salt Lake City Police responded to the site, the 7-Eleven at 487 S. Redwood Road, just before 11 p.m. Wednesday.

“The three victims stated they were walking from the 7-Eleven when the (man) came out and asked for money. When the victims told the (man) no, (he) pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victims.

“The (man) demanded money from them again and … ‘racked’ the firearm. The three victims ran inside of the 7-Eleven. (He) entered a Green Subaru Outback and left the scene. Surveillance footage from 7-Eleven captured the suspect inside the store before the incident and provided law enforcement with a description of the male. The footage also captured the vehicle in which the (man) fled.”

It also caught the vehicle’s make and color, and “you can also see a small green sticker on the vehicle’s front window on the lower driver’s side,” the affidavit says.

On Thursday afternoon, officers spotted the car at the Park Inn, at 176 W. 600 South.

“After conducting surveillance, officers saw (a man) matching the description of the male from the incident,” says an affidavit filed in the arrest of Health Lee Lucas, 36.

Post Miranda, Lucas told police that he noticed his wallet missing while inside the 7-Eleven, and saw three males exiting, “and assumed that they had taken the wallet. (Lucas) claimed that they approached … and (he) demanded his wallet back.” Lucas said he brandished his firearm at the males “and they took off running.”

Lucas also told police that “he is a frequent illegal narcotics user and used heroin as recently as last night,” the affidavit says.

He was booked into the Salt Lake County jail system for investigation of alleged aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony; and possession or use of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony. Lucas was jailed without bail.
