ST. GEORGE, Utah, Sept. 6, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — St. George Police officials are attempting to debunk a widely shared social media post claiming suspects posing as perfume salesman are administering chloroform to people then kidnapping them.
The post, which was shared on Facebook by numerous St. George residents Wednesday, reads:
Please be advised and careful about what you’re doing out in St. George, Utah!!
A friend just told me police were at her work TONIGHT talking to the manager informing them not to let employees dump trash at night or be alone because there are men who are trying to sell “perfume” to girls, boys, ANYONE… But it is actually CHLOROFORM they are smelling!
They are putting their unconscious victims into vehicles for HUMAN TRAFFICKING!!
They started at Maverick on Boulevard, then the Mall and now they’re in SUNSET area!!
Thought I’d share this because these things are real, and they keep happening. PLEASE BE SAFE. PLEASE SHARE!!!
St. George Police Department, however, was quick to respond to the allegations.
“There are no reports of this happening in St. George,” SGPD posted on Facebook Thursday afternoon. “There have been men selling perfume in parking lots, however we respond to them when we are alerted to their presence in our city. Let me reiterate, THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPORTS MADE TO ST. GEORGE POLICE DEPARTMENT of anyone attempting to abduct a person by using chloroform during the above alleged circumstances. Nor have there been any person listed as missing related to a salesmen.”
The police department added a screenshot of the initial post, with large red letters that say “FALSE” across the photo.
