KEARNS, Utah, Dec. 16, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — A vehicle stolen from Kearns Tuesday evening was recovered after the dealership where the car was purchased used its tracking system to help police find it.

According to Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell, the car was stolen while it was warming up at the owner’s home.

“He left it running just long enough to go inside and get his child to bring him out, maybe two minutes.” Bell said. “Around 11:15 a.m., the owner called police and said the tracking company called him and they had been able to track the location of his car.”

When police tried to pull over the vehicle, the suspect drove off. Bell said officers immediately terminated the pursuit because they were still able to track the vehicle and did not want to put others at risk.

“We followed the car electronically from Kearns to Logan Avenue (1650 South) and 900 East,” Bell said. “The suspect then abandoned the vehicle and started to walk away when officers approached him. He has been cooperating with officers since.”

Sergio Gregory, 30, was arrested and taken to the Salt Lake County Jail on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, fleeing and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bell said Gregory has a history of prior charges of both fleeing and possession of stolen vehicles.
