TOOELE, Utah, April 27, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Tooele City Fire Department crews were called to a blaze in an abandoned building late Friday afternoon, and they were able to get the flames under control soon after arrival.
Fire Chief Rick Harrison said the call came in at about 5:30 p.m. to a structure fire near 99 N. Broadway.
“There was heavy smoke and flames on the east side of the building,” Harrison told Gephardt Daily. “We had the fire contained quickly, and then spent more time doing overhaul.”
Harrison said no one was inside the building when crews arrived, and no one was injured in the fire. No other buildings were threatened by the flames.
The owner of the building was contacted and came to the scene.
Harrison said the cause of the fire has not been determined yet, and there was “not much of anything” in the building.
“It could have been homeless people” on the property, but he said there was no way to confirm that.
Most of the damage was on the east side of the structure, but Harrison said no estimated dollar amount of damage was available.
