BRIGHAM CITY, Utah, May 22, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A trailer fire Tuesday morning has killed an elderly man in Brigham City, and left his son hospitalized with severe burns.
The fire was reported at about 8:45 a.m. by a neighbor who smelled smoke, then saw the blaze. Brigham City police said the woman yelled to her neighbors to come out of the home, near 1060 S. Main.
One occupant ran out, on fire, and the neighbor used her garden hose to douse the man, according to reports. He was taken to a local hospital, then transported to the University of Utah Burn Center. He had suffered second-degree burns over 35 to 40 percent of his body.
The man’s 83-year-father did not make it out, and was found deceased after the firefighters put out the blaze. Officials have identified the dead man as Kenneth Beach.
The Brigham City Fire Department said there were no working smoke detectors in the residence. Damage is estimated at $50,000.
