Sanpete County deputy killed in head-on collision in Juab County; 5 injured

JUAB COUNTY, Utah, July 30, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — An off-duty Sanpete County Sheriff’s deputy is dead Saturday night after a two-vehicle collision in Juab County.

All five of the people in the other car were transported to hospitals, four of them by medical helicopter.

Justin Scott, 27, of Nephi, died in the accident. He was driving a Kia Optima, his personal vehicle, westbound on State Route 132 near milepost 39 at 6:30 p.m.

While navigating a right curve in the road, Scott drifted out of his lane and into the oncoming traffic, where his Kia hit a Dodge Durango head on.

Scott was killed on impact. The adult male driver of the Durango and his 4-year-old passenger were flown from the scene in critical condition.

An adult female and two other children from the Durango were ground transported to Central Valley Medical Center. Those two children were later flown to Primary Children’s Hospital.

All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts.
