SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 25, 25016 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have released the name of a man who reportedly threatened an ambulance crew, a hospital and police officers because his wife was being transported from Tooele to St. Mark’s Hospital against his wishes.
Robyn Harrison, 48, was apprehended early Thursday before he could reach the hospital or stop the ambulance.
According to Unified Police Lt. Dan McConkey, dispatchers were called at about 2:40 a.m. by an officer working at St. Mark’s emergency room, who said an ambulance team returning from Tooele with a female patient was being threatened by the patient’s husband.
Police say the husband, who was following the ambulance in his pickup truck, not only threatened the ambulance crew, but also said he would kill everyone in the ER if his wife was admitted.
“The ambulance crew gave us directions to their location and we attempted to do a felony stop on the truck when the ambulance also pulled over,” McConkey said. “We told them to get out of here and the suspect started to follow them so we did a pit maneuver that stop him.”
McConkey said the suspect was still able to drive, so police performed a second pit maneuver by ramming the man’s truck into another officer’s vehicle near 3600 S. 700 East.
A Unified officer was slightly injured with reported head lacerations. He was taken to St. Mark’s Hospital as a precaution.
The suspect was taken to Intermountain Medical Center complaining of neck and back injuries. Harrison has a criminal record including burglary, DUI and simple assault convictions.
McConkey was uncertain why the woman was was being transported or why her husband did not want her admitted to St. Mark’s.
Harrison is expected to be charged with evading police and making terroristic threats.
