WEST BOUNTIFUL, Utah, June 7, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Drivers on northbound Interstate 15 in West Bountiful experienced delays Thursday evening after a truck pulling a trailer tipped over after trying to make a lane change, officials said.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. McCall Christensen told Gephardt Daily both the truck and the trailer tipped over after the incident, which occurred at milepost 318 north of 500 West, just after 6 p.m.
“The driver of the vehicle was attempting to make a lane change and, according to witnesses, there was another vehicle in that lane,” Christensen said. “The driver swerved, overcorrected and lost control of the trailer they were pulling, tipping the vehicle over and sliding across the freeway into the barrier.”
There was only one occupant in the vehicle and he suffered minor injuries, Christensen added.
The driver was wearing a seatbelt, he said, but because of the injuries he was transported to a local hospital by ground ambulance.
Christensen said speed may have been a factor, but also urged drivers to always check their blind spots.
“You have to give drivers with trailers room too. They can’t necessarily see you all the time, so just make sure to give everyone space to drive,” Christensen said.
Because the crash happened just after 6 p.m., in rush hour traffic, Christensen said officials are thankful no one else was caught up in the incident.
