PROVO, Utah, June 3, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A woman was taken to a hospital Monday after she was hit by a falling rock at Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon.
Utah County sheriff‘s deputies responded about 10:30 a.m. to reports that a woman near the bottom of the falls was injured when a large rock gave way from the trail above.
The woman, described as being between 60 and 70 years old, was standing by the walking/biking path when the rock hit her from behind, causing head and neck injuries, Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Garrett Dutson told Gephardt Daily.
The woman was transported by ambulance to Utah Valley Hospital. The extent of her injuries was not dislosed.
“It was reported there were a lot of people in the area hiking the trails to the east of the falls, and it’s unknown if one of those individuals hiking in the area stepped on a rock which gave away and rolled down the hill,” Duton said.
The rock that hit the woman was about 24 inches long, 3-4 inches thick and weighed about 30 pounds, he said.
