Feb. 25 (UPI) — At least 10 people were killed in a hotel fire in China’s Jiangxi Province on Saturday morning.
The fire began at the four-story HNA Platinum Mix Hotel in the province’s capital city of Nanchang at 8 a.m. and was put out by about 9:40 a.m.
More than 10 construction workers were working on the second floor of the building, which is attached to a 24-story apartment building when the blaze began.
Firefighters discovered seven bodies while searching the debris. A total of 16 people were taken to a hospital where three more died.
Initial investigations into the cause of the fire found it was caused by the cutting of decoration materials.
Seven people in connection with the incident were detained by police.
