Feb. 13 (UPI) — A tour bus carrying 44 people overturned Monday night on a highway near Taiwan’s capital in Taipei, killing 32 people, emergency officials said.

Twelve people were injured in the crash of the bus containing mainly elderly people on a one-day trip to Wuling Farm to see cherry blossoms, according to the Chinese-language Apple Daily. No foreign nationals were thought to be on the bus, which included a driver and tour guide, according to CNA news agency.

The crash at 9 p.m. in New Taipei City “happened on a curve, so the bus flipped and that could be due to excess speed,” according to a Taipei official. He said “the whole frame of the bus changed shape.”

Thirty-people people were pronounced dead at the scene and another two were declared dead at Taipei Municipal Wanfang Hospital, reported Apple Daily.

Twenty ambulances and 200 firefighters were sent to the scene.

In July 2016, 26 people died after a tour bus in Taiwan’s Taoyuan city caught fire. In September, investigators said a suicidal driver caused the crash.
