MILAN, Italy, Dec. 23, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Anis Amri, the prime suspect in the Berlin Christmas market terror attack, has been killed in a shootout with police in Milan, Italy.

According to statement released by Italian state police, the suspected terrorist was killed at about 3 a.m. local time after disembarking a passenger train which had just arrived from France.

Authorities say Amri was being questioned about his identity when he pulled a .22 caliber handgun from his backpack and shot one of the officers in the shoulder.

Investigators say Amri then attempted to flee before being shot and killed by a rookie police officer.

Amri, 24, was believed to be behind the wheel of the semi truck that plowed through the crowded Berlin Market on Monday, killing 12 and injuring dozens more. He had been the subject of an intense manhunt the last four days.
