ALBUQUERQUE, Feb. 15 (UPI) — An Albuquerque airport resumed normal operations after an explosive device was found attached to a rental car.
The Albuquerque International Sunport did not shut down Sunday morning, but customers returning rental cars were diverted to another location after what officials called a “safe and credible explosive device” was discovered at the airport’s Avis Budget rental car facility.
A mechanic detective the device at 8:30 a.m. and notified investigators, who called in the Albuquerque Police Department’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit. FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents were also on the scene.
The airport’s entire rental car facility was shut down until noon Sunday until the device, found under a car, was rendered safe.
The federal officials launched an investigation of the location where the vehicle was rented, and its last known user, officials said. No flights in or out of the airport were affected by the incident or the investigation.
